Gants Mill & Garden

A secluded 50 acre river valley with idyllic gardens and a stunning mill

Who are we...

Elaine and Greg have run Gants Mill as a wedding venue since 2007. The farm and mill have been in Elaine's family since 1949. As well as the mill, weddings and family, much time is taken up looking after their flock of Lleyn sheep.

Gants Mill is the perfect romantic venue for your country wedding, where you can be confident of an enchanting and memorable day.

We are Greg and Elaine. Elaine was brought up at Gants Mill, where we held our own wedding reception. We are delighted to be able to offer you the same magical experience that we enjoyed.

Our historical mill generates renewable hydro-electricity, hoovering up the carbon footprints of eight average homes. We grow much of our own fruit and vegatables, recycle and compost, and collect wood from our field boundaries to feed the woodstove in the farmhouse.

You can get married at Gants Mill as we have a licence to hold civil ceremonies in the Gazebo and the Conservatory. Your guests can watch as you process through the rose and clematis arches of the idyllic gardens. After the ceremony, while your guests are served canapés and drinks, you will be spoilt for choice of perfect backdrops for your wedding photographs. Then move on to your reception in our own traditional marquee, decorated in accordance with your imagination and inspiration.

After the wedding, the bride and groom can slip down between the chocolate satin sheets in the beautiful ensuite bridal bedroom at Gants Mill. Then wake gently to the soothing sounds of the mill waterfall before enjoying a delicious breakfast in the main house.

As a family concern we are committed to making your day relaxing, enjoyable and one you will remember always. Do conatct Greg to make a viewing appointment, as we would love to show you romantic Gants Mill.

Gants Mill is a family run venue. As a small farm with a historic watermill, we need to diversify to sustain this wonderful local asset. We offer weddings during the summer months as a low impact method of maintaining this unique place.

As our watermill generates renewable hydro-electricity we are a positive force in the fight against climate change. By generating 32,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a year in the watermill, we hoover up the carbon footprints of eight average homes. We are in the unique position of being able to give vital early encouragement to others thinking of using mills to generate electricity from water power. As a founder member of the South Somerset Hydropwer Group, we are active in the promotion of hydropower generation, helping other mill-owners and water engineers move forward with their projects.

We also open for charity under the NGS scheme every year giving tours of the mill, and have hosted many school visits, giving the pupils a unique insight into the 1000 year history of our mill, as well as an appreciation of how to generate renewable energy.

We have been given a Green Tourism Award by South Somerset District Council.

Domestic heating is a major factor in use of power. We are able to cut wood from our field boundaries and where it has fallen in the river. We saw it up at the sawbench powered by water in the mill and store it to dry in sheds round the farmyard.
